Paranormal Love Wednesday Blog Hop: Cursed Awakening Leads To A Savage Dawn

Ivy Morgan has finally gotten her chance to have a life of her own. Romance is not part of that plan.

Well that was before Nyx Wahpeton walked into her life.

Now Ivy's wondering if she can trust Nyx with her dark secrets but can Nyx trust her with his?

Nyx is a wolf shifter and the lives of all those he loves hangs in the balance for one woman; a human woman who has been hurt deeply.

While the sparks fly between them and the passion they share engulfs them both, an ancient evil lurks in the dark and Nyx will have to fight to keep his people and Ivy safe.

However, evil doesn't always lurk in the darkest of places and betrayal hits the hardest when it's the one you know.

READ IT NOW!

Ivy was afraid at first, but she could now see why Lorna loved it when Terrance picked her up on his Kawasaki. It was really exhilarating; almost like flying except she had to hold on or she’d fly right off. Nyx drove through town and down the old Route 44 before getting off and heading down some dirt roads. Everything was beautiful to Ivy! The statuesque trees with their green leaves and needles, the chestnut brown earth, the green foliage that littered the ground, and the way the sun streamed through the canopy of leaves. Nyx pulled the bike to a halt in front of an old covered bridge. He got off the bike and helped Ivy off as well. When they removed their helmets he led her over towards the bridge.
“This is the old Thatcher’s Bridge. It’s one of the oldest I’ve been told in the whole U.S. of A. My father...er grandfather helped build the bridge.” He explained with a bit of pride.
The old Thatcher Bridge was raggedy, but there was something really beautiful about it. It was like when one looked at a work of art that didn’t really look like it was anything until you took the time to stand back and really see it. The bridge looked as if at one time it might have been red and the wooden shingled roofing had all but either worn away with time or met with some sort of natural catastrophe. She peered in and could see beams of sunlight and dust motes sifting through the air.
“What happened to it?” she asked as she looked up at his face.
“Well, the bridge got old and there was a flood long ago. Something bad happened and well no one travels the bridge anymore. The elders at the Res as well as the town’s folk decided that the bridge would no longer be used. However, no one could bear to tear it down. So here it sits. I’ve been dying to be able to fix it up. I know that sounds kind of dull, huh?”
“No, no it doesn’t. It would be beautiful again with just some new boards, shingles, and some paint. What terrible thing happened?” Ivy was curious now. It really impressed her that he’d want to take on such a project, and take it on for such selfless reasons.
Nyx was a little uncomfortable. The story of the Thatcher Bridge was a sad one that not a lot of people spoke of. He cleared his throat and began the tale.
“Well, the bridge had been in operation for about ten years or so. It was how the people from town could get to the Res. The bridge had been a symbol of good faith and good relations between the ‘white man’ and the ‘red man’. This was back when both the town and the Res flourished with goodness. You know, even though there was all this goodwill there were still prejudices. The mayor at the time had a daughter. That daughter had been seeing an Indian boy much to her father’s displeasure. They would meet at this bridge and see each other. One night during a storm, the Mayor had discovered that his only daughter was with child. He threw her out and since there weren’t any phone lines at the Res at the time, she couldn’t very well call her lover. So she got in her father’s old pickup and headed for the Res.
The new road to the Res hadn’t been built yet so she had to cross the bridge. The storm was raging, the water was rising and that creek there was starting to flood. The car stalled on the bridge. The water was rising and well to make a long story short that great big hole, there…” he motioned to where one wall of the bridge had a huge gaping hole in it, “her truck with her in it was overtaken by water. They found her four days later, drowned. The Indian boy later found out why she had been on the bridge and in his despair, he hung himself. It was a really sad time; a horrible time. Ever since the bridge has been closed and never repaired. It sits as it is now, like a grave marker.” Nyx said sadly.
Ivy’s heart clenched in her chest at his story. It was truly awful what had happened.
“Nyx, I’m so sorry! That is such a sad story.” Ivy said as her voice broke.
Nyx looked over at her, and put an arm around her as he started to see a small tear streak down her face. His lips touched her forehead. It felt so right that she was in his arms and he couldn’t ignore it!
“I’m sorry I brought you here. I just wanted you to see it, but I shouldn’t have. It’s why I want to repair the bridge and make it something as it once was; beautiful!” he admitted.
“No, I’m glad you brought me here! It really is beautiful set amongst the trees and I bet you’ll make it even lovelier than it was before. It shouldn’t be a reminder of tragedy. God knows there are enough tragic reminders around without this being one of them.” she replied softly.
Nyx smiled but couldn’t help but feel the ache in her voice. Lorna’s word’s played in his head, “When it comes to suffering, she’s no stranger to it.”
“Ivy, what tragic reminders do you have?” he asked without really thinking. He wanted to recant his words but couldn’t.
Ivy’s eyes grew even sadder and he could sense she was retreating into herself.
“I, I don’t really like talking about it. They’re n-not important.” She stammered as she stepped out of his arms.

“You know, you can talk to me if you need to! I mean I don’t want to intrude but no matter what it is that bothers you, you can talk to me if you want.” he offered.
She gave him a half smile that didn’t reach her eyes as she turned to look down at the creek with its bubbling stream flowing along. Nyx decided to drop the subject. The last thing he wanted to do was be pushy. He just hoped she’d learn to trust him. Whatever it was, he didn’t care; he only wanted to help her if he could. Nyx cared about her even though he knew he shouldn’t.
“Come on, I have someone I want you to meet!” he said as he led her back to the bike.
Ivy hoisted herself on the back of bike and wrapped her arms around Nyx wondering where they were going next but not caring as long as she was with him now. Nyx started up the bike and again they were off. They headed on down the dirt path beyond the bridge. They came back up onto the main road and he headed east on it. The sun was just starting to make the sky look peachy-pink, but there was some blue in it still. Nyx pulled off onto another dirt road that looked more like an old service road. At the end of the road was a small drive way. Nyx stopped in front of a small house. It looked more like a log cabin out of an Outdoor magazine. There was a middle-aged woman rocking in a chair snapping green beans into a terracotta bowl. She looked up and smiled as she waved at Nyx.
Nyx helped Ivy off the bike and led her towards the front porch to where the woman was now standing. “Margaret, this is a friend of mine, Ivy Morgan.” He greeted. Ivy stepped to the side of Nyx and shook the woman’s hand. She smiled warmly at both Ivy and Nyx.
“Margaret White Elk has lived here her whole life, Ivy. She’s a good friend to my family, and well just about everyone else! She doesn’t say too much, but Margaret is one of the finest women I know and she makes the best fry bread!” Nyx whispered.
Margaret made a gesture with her hands and smiled. Ivy guessed that Margaret must be deaf, and wished she knew sign language. However, Nyx seemed to be communicating pretty good with her. Inside the woman’s small house was an iron stove, dried fruit and herbs hanging from the ceiling on a rack, a modest counter top and sink combo, a small Frigidaire, and cabinets with see through panes that showed her dry goods and dishes. On the oak looking table, there were bowls of fruits and nuts along with a few fat candles. Everything looked homey and neat. Woven rugs were placed strategically and decoratively. On the walls were pictures in heirloom frames and beautiful paintings. Ivy would have bet her next pay check that she had painted them herself. A few of them were nature landscapes and animals, but there were four that really looked like abstract art pieces. The colors were vibrant and every detail had been included. She could have sworn that if she had touched the painting of a trio of bear cubs that she would have felt a fuzzy face instead of a canvas with paint.
Margaret went straight to a cabinet and took out three glasses that she filled with tea. All the colors from the wooden floor to the furniture were all bright earth tones. The cabin seemed just as cozy as the woman in front of her. Margaret took out a covered bowl and set it on the table. It was fry bread. Nyx took a piece and broke it in half. He gave a piece to Ivy. She took a nibble and then a bigger bite. Nyx hadn’t lied; this was good stuff! Margaret made some more gestures that were probably American Sign Language. Nyx laughed and nodded.
Ivy was through her half of bread when Nyx handed her another piece. Margaret laughed. Ivy felt her face flush with embarrassment. Nyx patted her hand. “Don’t worry; you are giving her quite a compliment by eating her fry bread! Margaret can hear if you speak to her; she just can’t speak.” He explained.
“Thank you for welcoming me to your home and thank you for the bread! I’ve never had anything like it before and it’s delicious!” Ivy smiled at Margaret who smiled back and clapped her hands.
Margaret signed something and Ivy watched Nyx shake his head “no” and then she signed something else and Ivy didn’t miss the wink he gave her.
After about an hour and a short walk around back so Margaret could show Ivy her garden; Ivy and Nyx were back on the bike heading towards town. Ivy pointed out where she lived with Lorna. It was dark by the time they reached the house. They stood for a span of moments that seemed like eternity as they stared at one another.
“You should probably go in, Ivy. I really liked spending time with you today and I know Margaret liked having you around!” he said next to her ear.
Ivy didn’t want him to go. “I liked spending time with you too! Margaret is really nice, but was she born mute?”
Nyx’s eyes shadowed at that moment. His face looked pained.
“No, no she was married once. Her bastard husband beat on her. He was an alcoholic and he tried to strangle her. He crushed her voice box. Before, she met and married him; she had one of the most beautiful singing voices on the Res! Margaret’s husband died while coming home from a bar one night. He had been drinking and started a fight with the wrong guy. The guy tried to keep from fighting him, but the drunken asshole pulled a knife and the guy while trying to wrestle the thing away accidently ended up stabbing him.” he sighed and looked away.
“Margaret must have really loved the bastard though because she never again married.” Nyx knew a little more details but he was going to spare Ivy the play by play.
Ivy bowed her head. She knew all about how volatile men whether they were drunk or not could turn. It gave her shivers.
“She seems to really like you though; your visits must be a comfort to her.” Ivy whispered.
Nyx raked a hand through his hair, thinking to himself; once again he’d said something that had pained her, “Yeah. She is a very good friend to my mother. My mother always took care of Margaret as a child and then when she’d been hurt by her husband. I was little and Margaret walked over fifty miles in the snows of winter when we were all very sick. It was so bad that no one from the Res or town could come, but Margaret did. It’s ironic, Margaret is a healer among my people and hers yet she couldn’t heal herself.” He looked at Ivy and knew that he had totally killed the mood. He cursed himself.
“Hey, enough about Margaret though. I really liked spending time with you and I would like to see you again, how about tomorrow?”
Ivy shook her head, “I can’t. I have to work a double tomorrow. I won’t get off until after seven.”
Nyx just smiled, “Hey, I don’t mind as long as I could see you! If nothing else, I could give you a ride home!” He found himself hoping that she’d say yes, but he wanted to see her smile.
Ivy thought about it and gave him a half smile, “Okay. I work down at Grady’s CafĂ©. I get off at seven.”
Nyx took his hand and placed it slowly and gently on her cheek as he leaned in slowly and barely touched his lips to hers. Ivy knew she should bolt but the man drew her in like a magnet! For a moment she was lost in the sensation of his kiss. In a lot of ways, it was her very first kiss!
When she parted her lips ever so slightly, Nyx deepened the kiss. Immediately heat flushed her whole body and she became a live wire. He rested his hands on her either side of her face as he kissed her. Never had she ever been kissed like this before. She’d always felt cold and inhuman when Papa Paul had touched her. She didn’t feel that way with Nyx. Suddenly she became all too aware of her body’s reaction and she withdrew.
Nyx knew that something had turned her off but he just smiled and gave her the space she needed. He wished he knew what it was or rather who had hurt her. Nyx didn’t press for details; he just hoped she’d open up about it.

Ever since I was a child I have loved books and stories. I am a mother of two and have been married to my high school sweetheart for twenty years. I have been a long time fan of horror, fantasy, and Science fiction genres since I was a kid.

My dream is to be able to create stories that make you, the reader feel as if you are apart of that world and where your senses come alive. Writing paranormal romance gives me the vehicle so that I can write for my favorite bad boys (whether they come with fang or claw) and give them HEA's that aren't damsels in distress but women who we all can relate to.

BLISSFUL VALENTINE EXCERPT :

He stops and meets my gaze, then bends down and grabs a mound of snow, packing into a tight ball. He takes a step back and winds his arm, throwing the snowball straight and fast. It smacks against the metal sign on the far end of the small pond near a cluster of benches, breaking off into a multitude of pieces.
He wipes his hands off on his pants. “Give it a try.”
I shake my head. “No way, I throw like a girl.”
His picks up a mound of snow and packs it together, forming a perfect sphere. He hands me the snowball and stands behind me, pressing his body against mine. My heartbeats thump against my chest, causing a surge of adrenaline to rush through my veins. I tremble, holding the snowball in my right hand. At least I can blame the cold for my shaky arm. He runs his hand down to my wrist and pulls it back, up toward my shoulder.
He rests his head on my shoulder and talks softly into my ear. “Pull your arm back to here and step forward at the same time you throw.” He moves to the side.
Goosebumps form on my neck from his warm breath gliding against my cool skin. My stomach flutters. Here goes nothing. I stare at the metal No Parking sign and pull my arm back, throwing the snowball as I step forward. Tiny fragments of snow fly through the air. A direct hit.
I clap my hands and bounce up and down on my toes. “Holy crap, I actually did it. I didn’t think I could hit the broad side of a barn.” Dean comes over and raises his hand to give me a high five. I lunge forward and pull him into a hug, before I realize what I’m doing. My chest tightens and heat creeps across my cheek.
He wraps his arms around my waist and presses his body against mine. I step back and ease away, dropping my arms to my sides. “We better head back, I’ve still got lots of physics studying to do if I plan on passing the semester.”
He rubs the back of his neck and nods.
I slide my frozen hands into my pockets and hold them in tight fists. Note to self: when I think I’m finished embarrassing myself I’m usually wrong.
The perfect untouched blanket of snow moves into an array of chaos as we turn the corner to my apartment. My heart beats faster with each step I take forward. This walk is taking forever. If I don’t get away from Dean soon, I may end up doing something else I shouldn’t. I mean, we’re just friends. I take a deep breath and slowly exhale as we approach my driveway.
I dig in my purse and pull out my keys. “Thanks for my victory celebration.”
He places his hand in the small of my back on our way toward my steps. “First of many.” His hand moves to my waist.
Summersaults take over my stomach. I step onto the first step. My boot slips along the rim of the concrete edge covered in a thin layer of ice and instantly it knocks me off balance. My hands flail through the air, desperately trying to grab onto anything.
Dean jumps into action, catching me before my head smacks against the hard sidewalk. I grab onto his sculpted bicep and pull myself to my feet.
Fire burns through my cheeks, which are no doubt fire-engine red. I drop my chin to my chest and hunch my shoulders. He lifts my chin and gazes into my eyes. My heart pounds against the walls of my chest. Electric shockwaves flows through my veins. He leans in closer. My lips part and lava flows through my body. He tucks a stray strand of hair behind my ear. “I knew you’d fall for me sooner or later.” He places a soft kiss on my cheek and takes a step back, turning and walking away.

Happy Fifty Shades of Grey, I mean, Happy Valentine's Day!

Finally! Finally it's here. You've been waiting for it and finally the day has arrived in theaters everywhere...The Fifty Shades of Grey has finally opened and women everywhere are having a religious experience.

Okay, have you stopped laughing yet? Look, I'm not going to bash or demonize the movie. I may end up seeing it myself just for the sake of curiosity and because I still miss my Sheriff of Story Brook from Once Upon A Time (really, Regina, did you have to really obliterate the Huntsman? Gah!). However, I really can't stop giggling at all this craze and news stories going wild about how this movie is going to lead to sexual violence or that it's the new sexual revolution. Really, the new sexual revolution? Say that out loud a few times, I burst out laughing after the first time.

For starters, if movies like Eyes Wide Shut, The Secretary (I still can't get why no one is crying out the foul of that movie-then again that was pre-social media), The Story of O, Blue Velvet, and my own favorite-91/2 Weeks haven't been shamed, then why Fifty?

It's not really all that original of a story. It's told in the POV of Anastasia, who is constantly saying "fuck", "Oh Shit!" and her various "sound words" for her passion. Now, let's talk about those words.
Ana seems to cry out these words a lot in the sack or on the rack:

"Aaah" (Did Christian creep up behind her and go "Boo!" Or did a mouse suddenly streak across the floor?) I just keep thinking of that old Nickelodeon cartoon, Aaah! Monsters!

"Ungh" or "Ung"- Now this one, I'm picturing one might use this particular word to describe stubbing their toe or hitting their shin. Then again perhaps Ana stubbed her vag, who knows.

"Aarrgh" Ana is a pirate? I mean while she's in the throes of passion, her go to is doing a rendition of Red Handed Jill, the pirate wench?

So we have "Aaah", "Ungh", and "Aarrgh" plus endless pages of inner goddess dialogue. That's sexy right? Next time you're with your significant other make those noises and note the expression on their faces. I guarantee you that they will look at you like you've lost your gourd.

Just about every woman in the USA, right now if they haven't already are visiting the local adult toy store and are buying floggers, whips, canes, creams, gels, and nipple clamps. What I want to know is, when the neighbors end up calling the police and they're arrested for what will be perceived as domestic abuse and poor hubby is going to have see a therapist for his PTSD he's going to end up with, what then? I'm thinking every husband and boyfriend/girlfriend will be throwing and burning the Fifty Shades of Grey books while singing, "We Shall Over Come". Are you still laughing? I mean c'mon, it's a little funny. Picture coming out of your house to see a cop car with its lights going, and your neighbor Mrs. So and So is standing with handcuffs on looking contrite while her poor husband is cringing in his boxers pointing a finger while screaming, "I was all into her sexy little leather outfit. I didn't even mind being handcuffed, but when she told me she wanted to use that....on my......" C'mon, you'd laugh, especially if they were the little church couple.

Look, I have no real love for the books but it's a fad that perhaps symbolizes how many women are either bored in the bedroom or are looking for some sort of adventure with some drama thrown in for good measure. To each their own. So this Valentine's Day, forget what Christian and Ana are doing and create your own experiences with your someone special. If you're single this holiday, get some girls together and have a night out. Who knows you might even get lucky. Heck, go see the movie and laugh! I know I'll be laughing if I end up going. I mean how can you not when you have "Aaah!", "Ungh", and "Aargh".

Happy Valentine's Day Guys and Gals!

The Passionate Thrill Ride Continues with Savage Dawn

Shiloh knew the moment he laid eyes on Lahni that she was his. She'd always been his and now that the threat to their people and humans alike was over for now; it was time for him to claim her. He'd waited long enough and his inner animal wasn't going to be denied any longer.

Lahni Wahpeton is the family wild child and she's a force to be reckoned with both on and off the stage. As a child, Shiloh Red Cloud was her best friend that became her first love but when he went away and never looked back, she looked forward. No one is putting a claim on her; let alone a big silver wolf who thinks he's got her all figured out.

Excerpt

Lahni felt as if she could breathe as she entered the loud smoky bar called Razor Wire.  It had been her home away from home. A metal band was already tearing it up on the small stage towards the back. Dakota winced as he adjusted to the loud music. Lahni led him to the opposite end of the bar. The bar was not a pretty kind of place. It looked like the place Mad Max would have went after Thunderdome. The floor was concrete with metal tables and beaten up bar chairs. Rumor had it that it had once been an old steel mill that went belly up but the liquor was cheap, the beer was bad, but she loved it. Behind the bar was an old friend; Sully. Sully was about six feet and two inches tall, weighed almost 270, bald and tattooed, and to everyone but her he was a mean son of a bitch. Sully had given Lahni her first start in the music business at the rough neck club. He’d often told her that she was the daughter he never had.
Sully came around the bar and shoved one of the patrons out of the way. The only place that wasn’t tattooed on Sully was his face. He was burly and had a few of his front teeth missing, but there was no denying that he didn’t love Lahni. He opened his arms wide and Lahni threw herself into those big strong arms.
“Hey girl, where have you been you little hellcat?”
Lahni looked up at him and grinned, “Everywhere and anywhere Sully.” She playfully squeezed him, “Hey there, you feel like you’ve lost a little around the middle. You take my advice and find some devil woman to curl up around and hold on to?”
Sully gave a big belly laugh and shook his head, “Hell no! I’m too young for all that nonsense.” He looked over her shoulder to see Dakota standing behind her. Sully put on his best scowl but kept his arm draped around Lahni’s shoulders.
“I take it that this piece of road kill came with you?”
Dakota shrugged, “Yeah I am with her which explains me, but exactly who are you?”
In a split second Sully had Dakota around the neck. He wasn’t really trying to hurt him but he always had fun with the “new blood”. Lahni rolled her eyes, “Careful old man, I have to take him home in one piece with all his important bodily functions working.”
Sully leaned in and took a sniff of Dakota. Dakota looked at his sister just a little alarmed. Lahni winked at him.
“Just remember here pup, don’t start no shit and there won’t be no shit and if you get too annoying, I’ll use you for target practice.” And with that he let Dakota go and walked back to Lahni.
“So, are you going to play tonight? I got an open slot just as soon as Steele and his boys are done.”  He asked as he leaned back and grabbed two beers and sent them sliding down the bar.
Lahni looked around, “Hell yeah man. I would love to but you might want to see if Steele wants a follow up act.”
Sully sucked in his lip a little and managed to whistle loud enough over the Industrial Metal and crowd and pointed at Lahni when the lead singer popped his head up. Steele nodded and pointed at Lahni. She nodded back and headed up towards the stage.
Dakota was left standing when a big hand clapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and Sully gave him a half smile, “C’mon kid, cop a squat at the bar and I’ll get ya a can of pop.”
Dakota wasn’t going to argue that he was past the age of twenty-one. He sat down and watched as his sister took to the stage. He smiled at a lady in a Harley Davidson t-shirt and she pointed at his can of Coke with her longneck and laughed before turning her head. Dakota turned to look at Sully who just winked at him as he poured himself a shot. Lahni, you owe me! He projected at his sister.
***
Lahni was having a ball playing with Steele and his band. She’d shed her jacket and was sweaty but she didn’t mind; she was lost to the music. When Steele cued up The Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson the crowd went wild and Lahni fed off their excitement and it fueled her playing.
Shiloh walked through the door of the bar with Cinjin and Khloe. Khloe hadn’t been comfortable telling Shiloh where Lahni had gone and it had put Cinjin in a bad mood but Shiloh was through playing games with Lahni. When she had pulled out he had tried to not let it affect him until he’d heard her sisters laughing about Lahni getting “a piece of strange”. He’d asked Cinjin what that meant and when Cinjin had told him, he’d nearly gone insane. Lahni was his and she’d always been his. When her father had reached out to his clan, he’d agreed to come and fight their ancient foe, but he’d also had a second agenda; claiming his mate.
Over the years, Shiloh had kept tabs on Lahni. He’d even gone to some of her shows in area bars and festivals. Every time he’d hung back in the shadows. Five years ago, he’d caught her show in Tulsa and that wasn’t all he’d caught. After the show he’d made his way to the back to find Lahni draped over some mere human male with a stripe of neon green and purple hair and tattoos. Pain had struck him hard in the chest at the sight of her with someone else. Before he could reign in his emotions to speak to her, she’d left with the bastard on the back of motorcycle. He’d returned to his people thinking he could get over her. He’d been wrong but this time he wouldn’t be going anywhere with her. The past, he’d make up to her but right now he had to give her a reason for a future with him.
“Shiloh, do you want to grab a table or are you just going to stand there planning how best to grab Lahni?” Cinjin barked.
Khloe elbowed Cinjin in his side, “You are sleeping on the couch.” She looked up at Shiloh, “Listen Shi, if you go all Tarzan Lahni will only push you further away. I know my sister and believe me, you will lose her.”
Cinjin leaned down to his mate’s ear and nuzzled as he whispered, “You love it when I go all Tarzan Khlobear.”
Shiloh arched an eyebrow at the two of them. “Maybe we should find you two a room.” He grumbled.
Cinjin put an arm over Khloe’s shoulders and nodded at Dakota, who he’d just spotted. They headed to the bar while Shiloh made his way towards the back where the band was playing. He watched Lahni play and saw the crowd’s response to her and the group of musicians. The lead singer was too close to his mate and the animal inside the man snarled and growled.
Lahni ddidn'thave to look into the crowd to know that she was being watched and who it was. She’d bet her life that he was scowling. Using her kind’s common means of communication, she flexed her telepathic muscles.
I know you are there and you can leave the same way you got here. I don’t need a baby sitter and even if I did, it isn't your place.
Shiloh narrowed his eyes, at her demands. You wouldn’t need a baby sitter if you would stay put. We have a lot to discuss Lahni.
Hmm, let me pencil that into my schedule….sometime NEVER! I have nothing to discuss with you other than a wave or a semi-fond farewell when you leave. Go. Shoo; be gone.
Lahni raised her head and smirked as she leaned her back into the side of the Steele who was more than happy to wrap an arm around her shoulders as he sung the chorus to the song.
Shiloh was keeping his control by threads. You will move away from that man or you can watch me tear him to pieces! His mind snarled.
Lahni kept on playing and kept giving the crowd a show. I am a grown woman and have been for quite some time you lame ass chauvinistic pig. I don’t take orders from anyone except from my daddy and baby you ain't him. Leave Shiloh, you’re a buzzkill.
Shiloh immediately sent mental images of him bending her over his knee and spanking her. Lahni sent him mental images of her with a pair of garden shears pointed at his crotch.
Just wait Little Bird, when this is over you’re going to regret that.
Don’t call me that. You lost that privilege a long time ago. Who says this is going to be over? I might just join Steele back at his motel room. Go back to the valley Shiloh and get a life.
Shiloh felt rage tear into him. Lahni was his and he’d claimed her long ago. There was much he had to atone for but he’d be damned if he let her keep running from him. What did she mean he was a buzz kill? He wondered.
Lahni played well past last call. Every time she looked up, she saw him glaring at her through thick black lashes and eyes that reminded her of mercury and gold. When they were teenagers, Shiloh had been tall but he was built like a body builder only a hair leaner than Cinjin, her sister’s mate. She looked towards the bar and found her brother, sister, and Cinjin talking with Sully. When she’d seen Shiloh years ago, long after he’d left her and broke her heart, she had paid a guy to take her to her hotel after making quite a scene in front of Shiloh of being all over the guy. She had hated leading the guy on but seeing him at one of the clubs her band had played was too much. In truth, Lahni hadn’t been interested in a guy since Shiloh had destroyed the naĂŻve love sick calf she’d been.  When Steele finally called it quits he leaned over and invited her to hang out at the motel they were staying at. It was tempting, but she knew Shiloh wasn’t just going to let her simply leave. No, he’d make a scene and there would be bloodshed. Steele didn’t deserve that and neither did Sully. Those were child games and she was a grown woman. She’d show him who the alpha female was and that she could kick some ass.
Shiloh waited until the band had packed up for the most part and had restrained the urge to kill when he heard the lead singer’s invitation to her. Lahni had smiled as she’d given him a hug and shook her head. It was that dismissal that kept that man from being torn to shreds. He watched as she returned her guitar to its case and grabbed her jacket before stepping off the stage. A few patrons that had stuck around had complimented her and moved towards the guys in the band. Some of the women who had been close to him, had tried to come on to him or press their numbers into his hand but he had eyes for only one female and right now he couldn’t wait to get her alone. Cinjin and Dakota moved to stand by him while Khloe took a bottle of beer to her sister. He watched as the two girls embraced.
“So, are we killing anyone tonight?” Cinjin mused.
“Man, have I missed my hearing. How does she put up with that loud ass shit?” Dakota whined.
Shiloh would have grinned if he wasn’t so pissed off. Cinjin rolled his eyes and elbowed Dakota.
“Listen pup, I know you lead a sheltered life, but that was some good music. When you’re grown, you’ll appreciate it.”
“Listen? Who could listen to that? My ears are going to be ringing for a week.”
Cinjin looked over at Shiloh, “Do you think Khloe would miss a brother? I could make it almost painless.”
Dakota moved over a few spaces from Cinjin and narrowed his eyes. Khloe, you’re mate is making death threats. Tell him I’m not a pup.
Cinjin looked at Dakota and snarled, flashing his canines, “Snitch”.
Shiloh ignored their banter and watched as Khloe looked over her shoulder and scowled at her mate who only snorted.
Lahni ignored the three of them and laughed it up with her sister.
Lahni, don’t push Shiloh too far. You’re in the frying pan sister getting ready to be thrown into the fire if you don’t watch yourself.
He’s the one who sshouldn't push Khlo. I don’t want anything to do with him and he needs to get it through his thick head. That ship sailed a long time ago.
He’s in love with you, you know that right? He’s not going to just walk away. He’s every bit as stubborn as Cinjin. So what’s your plan because we can’t stand here all morning laughing like crazy old women? They’re going to get suspicious.
I’m driving my Jeep with Dakota or Dakota and Shiloh can take your ride and you and Cin can ride with me.
Khloe raised an eyebrow at her sister’s plan. She had a funny feeling that Lahni’s plan was going to go down the crapper.
Lahni waved at Sully who was wiping down the bar and walked right between the two hulking giants who were standing like guard dogs at the entrance. Khloe snickered behind her sister. Without looking behind her she called out to her brother Dakota, “C’mon Koda, we’re leaving.”
The moment she stepped out into the cool night air, an arm grabbed her around her waist and lifted her off the ground. Her temper snapped as she tried to wiggle free.
“Let me go you prick!” she hissed and fought against his hold.
Shiloh tightened his grip around her waist, “Cinjin, take Dakota with you and Khloe back. Tell Dyami and Mai that I have Lahni.”
“Oh fuck no you don’t! Khloe don’t you dare leave and Shiloh put me down or you’ll regret it!”
Shiloh grabbed the guitar case before she could maneuver it to hit him, and tossed it into the back of his pick-up truck. He then set her back on her feet but turned her while still keeping hold of her. If looks could kill, he’d already be skinned and his head mounted on her wall. Determination set into his jaw.
“You’re coming with me and that’s final. Fight or better yet, run Lahni because when I catch you, and I will catch you, it will make it sweeter; but either way you’re coming with me.”
Lahni was tempted to shift and give him a run for his money but there was too much open ground and she knew that she wouldn’t be able to out run him. She could scream for help, but she wouldn’t risk Sully being hurt or anyone else. Besides, those were coward things and she damn sure was no coward. Lahni glared up at Shiloh and squared her shoulders.
“I.HATE.YOU.” she snarled through clenched teeth as she enunciated each word.
He leaned into her face, “Good, right now I’m not too thrilled with you either.” He pulled her over to the truck door and opened it. She leaped up into the seat crossing her arms over her huffing chest looking straight out of the windshield. When she got home, there was going to be hell to pay.
****
They had driven in silence. Shiloh had slowed the truck down to let Cinjin go on ahead. Lahni refused to look at him.
“Lahni, we need to talk.” His voice was tense but he tried to keep his tone soft.
She looked out the window, “I have nothing to say to you.”
“Fine. I’ll talk.” He started to open his mouth again, but she turned on the radio, and turned it up loud.
He growled as he shut it off. When he started to speak again, she pulled out an iPod and placed the buds in her ears. He pulled the truck over and pulled them out of her ears and grabbed the iPod and clutched it in his hand with the urge to throw it out the window.
“Give me that back. I don’t want to hear anything you have to say.”she hissed as her eyes flashed in warning.
Shiloh smirked, “You’re going to listen to me if we have to sit her all night.”
Lahni flexed her hand and looked at her nails, “Fine. Speak.”
“Lahni, this has gone on for far too long. You’re my mate and I won’t allow you to keep running circles around me.”
She turned to him and covered her mouth with mock emotion, “Oh Shiloh, yes darling, I’ve been waiting all these years just to hear those words fall out of your mouth. My life has meaning now! I bet we can finally cure cancer since you've finally decided that I’m your mate.” Her  syrupy sweet tone in her voice didn't match the murderous glare in her eyes.
She “tsk’d” him, “Gimme a break. You are delusional if you think for a moment that I would tie myself to someone like you.” Her disgust was palatable. His control finally snapped. She was his and he'd had enough of this. Shiloh hadn't expected her to forgive all the years lost to them but he did expect her to be reasonable. At least that was the thought until she spoke to him as if he hadn't meant anything to her.
He grabbed the back of her head, and bared his canines at her, “You’re mine Lahni, whether you want to admit it or not. We were tied to one another long ago.”
Lahni jerked out of his hold, “I belong to no one but myself and my family. We were children long ago. Get a life and get a new dream.”
Those mercury gold eyes burned a hole into her all the way to her soul. He had broken her once, and she wasn't going back for seconds.
“Shiloh, this is the 21st Century and Stepford was just a movie. You can’t just demand and declare shit of me. I won’t be anyone’s prize, especially by force.”
Shiloh heard the venom she spat, and sure she was pissed off but there was a sadness and longing in those bi-colored eyes of hers. He wanted to take her into his arms and soothe her and mend the heart of the only woman he’d ever loved in his entire life. Shiloh knew though if he eased up now, she’d only run again and he’d go insane chasing her down.
