Summer Heat and A Whole Lot of Great Authors You Should Be Reading
So a month or so ago, I was asked if I wanted to participate in a book event on Facebook. Let me first tell you that if you're an author, these are great to not only participate in but to gain new friends and fans. I did it because I love meeting new authors and new people. Plus, Tina Donahue is awesome and I adore her. So back to Summer Heat. I had such a great time with these ladies and all the guests who showed up that I felt like I just had to share the fun with all of you out there in Blog Land and Readersville. Everyone started out by posting their books, links, and everything that had to do with their books and them being an author. Then the real fun started. I am talking about contests and games that went as mild as "Guess the Song That Plays at Your Funeral" to pictures of some serious man candy with suggestive captions to "Name that Penis!" Okay maybe it wasn't "Name that Penis" but I am sure Cynthia Knoble and Michelle Roth are totally going to steal that. Some of them had me laughing until I cried and my own son looked at me as if I had sprouted a second head and that was only day 1. Summer Heat finishes up tonight so I hope you guys who read this decide to stop by while you've got some free time.
So to all my new found author friends and sisters of the pen, I am showcasing everyone that has participated so far. This is quite a list and I am urging EVERYONE to put these ladies and their books on your TBR lists. They are truly PHENOMENAL!
1. Our lovely hostess with the mostess, Tina Donahue: Tina writes Erotic Contemporary and Erotic Paranormal. She has a the Outlaw Realm Series that is definitely a panty scorcher. Here's her author bio: I’m an award-winning, bestselling novelist in erotic, paranormal, contemporary and historical romance for Kensington, Samhain Publishing, Ellora’s Cave, Siren Publishing, Booktrope, Luminosity, and indie. Yay! Booklist, Publisher’s Weekly, Romantic Times and numerous online sites have praised my work, and trust me, I’m forever grateful for that. I’ve had my books reach finals in the EPIC competition, one title was named Book of the Year at a review site, and others have won awards in RWA-sponsored contests. I’m actually featured in the 2012 Novel & Short Story Writer’s Market. Talk about feeling like a freaking star. Before my writing career, I was the editor of an award–winning Midwestern newspaper and worked in Story Direction for a Hollywood production company. Outside of being an admitted and unrepentant chocoholic, I’ve flown a single-engine plane (scary stuff), rewired an old house using an electricity for dummies book, and have been known to moan like Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally whenever I eat anything Mexican or Italian. Yeah, I like to eat (burp).

2. Cynthia Knoble-Cynthia Knoble is wickedly delicious when it comes to her books and sense of humor. I am going to paste her official author blurb about her: Although I am a newly published author, I have written my entire life. In addition to my two currently available novels, a third novel and a series of erotic shorts will be published very shortly. A lover of all things creepy and scary, paranormal elements abound in my stories. I also love to draw, paint and cook. In fact, I am a trained chef but now I devote my energies to writing full-time. I am also the mother of two sons and I live with them, a dog and a cat in southern Ontario, Canada. Cynthia's writing genre is romance but her books range from sweet romance to erotic.

3. Michelle Roth- Now let me tell you about Michelle Roth, she is killing it with her Transfigured Series. However, she hits a home run with her Contemporary romances as well. Michelle Roth is definitely becoming a force to be reckoned with. I personally just read her first paranormal romance and all I can say is "GIMME MORE GIMME MORE!"
Here's her titles including her first paranormal romance (welcome to the club Michelle).

4. Mardi Maxwell- Here's a little about Mardi: I love the quirky and the unique. I believe in UFOs, ghosts, and that we have a moon station on the dark side of the moon. lol I have a wonderful son and DIL who have been kind enough (after much badgering and hinting around) to give me three lovely grandchildren. I'm a very young grandma ;-)
I've loved reading since I was a little girl although just about every book I ever read I rewrote in my mind. After a while I decided to just start writing my own books. My best friend dared me to send one in, so I did and to my surprise it was accepted.
I love books that make you laugh, cry, sit on the edge of your chair in fear that the couple won't work it out, and then finally cheer for them when they do. I'm a true believer in a happy ending and won't read a book or watch a movie that ends any other way.
I write every day but I always find time to spend with my family and friends as well as my hobbies (cooking, gardening, traveling, and ceramics).
My personal motto is "Regret is a wasted emotion." Live well and happy reading.
Mardi's genre is erotic paranormal BDSM style. Forget the Fifty club and join Club Mardi's Dom's Club of Mystique and Zarronian Warriors Series

5. DeCota Jaymes-DeCota Jaymes is published through JK Publishing. She is a new author and she mixes her paranormal with some hawt erotica. In her own words, this is her author bio: I started writing as a hobby. I didn't know that I would actually enjoy it until my friend read some of my work and loved it.... I hope to make this a well deserved creative breakthrough for myself. I never was creative in the crafting area, but words are easier to manipulate. They are your thoughts, feelings, and your life all in one package. Most of my writings have bits from my past. Some are little things that would never really matter to some; others are life changing and I make it to where it has a happy ending. Not everyone gets one of those and not many situations warrant them either. My extreme case of sarcasm and odd humor make it even more interesting.
Here is her latest release:

6. Emma Anderson-Emma Anderson is a six title author and she is definitely a fine asset to club Paranormal Romance genre. Here is an excerpt from the first leg of the Summer Heat book event from last night in her own words: These voices belong to our many characters, and when I say constant I mean it. Mine especially like talking to me just as I’m about to go to sleep, which is helpful for someone who was a light sleeper before my boys were born, and now barely gets two hours before waking up again. (Note my boys are now ...7 and 9, so I have no idea what my body/mind is playing at not letting me have a decent night’s sleep).
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Emma Anderson. I currently have six romances books out on the shelves of Amazon, Bookstrand, Kobo,….. Well you get the idea! And another one due to be released in the next few weeks. So far they are all paranormal. My romantic mind likes to see the creatures of nightmares having their own HEA.

I have Sensuous Promotions to thank for some of that success.

Paranormal Love Wednesday Blog Hop: Cursed Awakening Leads To A Savage Dawn
Ivy Morgan has finally gotten her chance to have a life of her own. Romance is not part of that plan.
Well that was before Nyx Wahpeton walked into her life.
Now Ivy's wondering if she can trust Nyx with her dark secrets but can Nyx trust her with his?
Nyx is a wolf shifter and the lives of all those he loves hangs in the balance for one woman; a human woman who has been hurt deeply.
While the sparks fly between them and the passion they share engulfs them both, an ancient evil lurks in the dark and Nyx will have to fight to keep his people and Ivy safe.
However, evil doesn't always lurk in the darkest of places and betrayal hits the hardest when it's the one you know.
READ IT NOW!
Ivy was afraid at first, but she could now see why Lorna loved it when Terrance picked her up on his Kawasaki. It was really exhilarating; almost like flying except she had to hold on or she’d fly right off. Nyx drove through town and down the old Route 44 before getting off and heading down some dirt roads. Everything was beautiful to Ivy! The statuesque trees with their green leaves and needles, the chestnut brown earth, the green foliage that littered the ground, and the way the sun streamed through the canopy of leaves. Nyx pulled the bike to a halt in front of an old covered bridge. He got off the bike and helped Ivy off as well. When they removed their helmets he led her over towards the bridge.
“This is the old Thatcher’s Bridge. It’s one of the oldest I’ve been told in the whole U.S. of A. My father...er grandfather helped build the bridge.” He explained with a bit of pride.
The old Thatcher Bridge was raggedy, but there was something really beautiful about it. It was like when one looked at a work of art that didn’t really look like it was anything until you took the time to stand back and really see it. The bridge looked as if at one time it might have been red and the wooden shingled roofing had all but either worn away with time or met with some sort of natural catastrophe. She peered in and could see beams of sunlight and dust motes sifting through the air.
“What happened to it?” she asked as she looked up at his face.
“Well, the bridge got old and there was a flood long ago. Something bad happened and well no one travels the bridge anymore. The elders at the Res as well as the town’s folk decided that the bridge would no longer be used. However, no one could bear to tear it down. So here it sits. I’ve been dying to be able to fix it up. I know that sounds kind of dull, huh?”
“No, no it doesn’t. It would be beautiful again with just some new boards, shingles, and some paint. What terrible thing happened?” Ivy was curious now. It really impressed her that he’d want to take on such a project, and take it on for such selfless reasons.
Nyx was a little uncomfortable. The story of the Thatcher Bridge was a sad one that not a lot of people spoke of. He cleared his throat and began the tale.
“Well, the bridge had been in operation for about ten years or so. It was how the people from town could get to the Res. The bridge had been a symbol of good faith and good relations between the ‘white man’ and the ‘red man’. This was back when both the town and the Res flourished with goodness. You know, even though there was all this goodwill there were still prejudices. The mayor at the time had a daughter. That daughter had been seeing an Indian boy much to her father’s displeasure. They would meet at this bridge and see each other. One night during a storm, the Mayor had discovered that his only daughter was with child. He threw her out and since there weren’t any phone lines at the Res at the time, she couldn’t very well call her lover. So she got in her father’s old pickup and headed for the Res.
The new road to the Res hadn’t been built yet so she had to cross the bridge. The storm was raging, the water was rising and that creek there was starting to flood. The car stalled on the bridge. The water was rising and well to make a long story short that great big hole, there…” he motioned to where one wall of the bridge had a huge gaping hole in it, “her truck with her in it was overtaken by water. They found her four days later, drowned. The Indian boy later found out why she had been on the bridge and in his despair, he hung himself. It was a really sad time; a horrible time. Ever since the bridge has been closed and never repaired. It sits as it is now, like a grave marker.” Nyx said sadly.
Ivy’s heart clenched in her chest at his story. It was truly awful what had happened.
“Nyx, I’m so sorry! That is such a sad story.” Ivy said as her voice broke.
Nyx looked over at her, and put an arm around her as he started to see a small tear streak down her face. His lips touched her forehead. It felt so right that she was in his arms and he couldn’t ignore it!
“I’m sorry I brought you here. I just wanted you to see it, but I shouldn’t have. It’s why I want to repair the bridge and make it something as it once was; beautiful!” he admitted.
“No, I’m glad you brought me here! It really is beautiful set amongst the trees and I bet you’ll make it even lovelier than it was before. It shouldn’t be a reminder of tragedy. God knows there are enough tragic reminders around without this being one of them.” she replied softly.
Nyx smiled but couldn’t help but feel the ache in her voice. Lorna’s word’s played in his head, “When it comes to suffering, she’s no stranger to it.”
“Ivy, what tragic reminders do you have?” he asked without really thinking. He wanted to recant his words but couldn’t.
Ivy’s eyes grew even sadder and he could sense she was retreating into herself.
“I, I don’t really like talking about it. They’re n-not important.” She stammered as she stepped out of his arms.

“I, I don’t really like talking about it. They’re n-not important.” She stammered as she stepped out of his arms.
“You know, you can talk to me if you need to! I mean I don’t want to intrude but no matter what it is that bothers you, you can talk to me if you want.” he offered.
She gave him a half smile that didn’t reach her eyes as she turned to look down at the creek with its bubbling stream flowing along. Nyx decided to drop the subject. The last thing he wanted to do was be pushy. He just hoped she’d learn to trust him. Whatever it was, he didn’t care; he only wanted to help her if he could. Nyx cared about her even though he knew he shouldn’t.
“Come on, I have someone I want you to meet!” he said as he led her back to the bike.
Ivy hoisted herself on the back of bike and wrapped her arms around Nyx wondering where they were going next but not caring as long as she was with him now. Nyx started up the bike and again they were off. They headed on down the dirt path beyond the bridge. They came back up onto the main road and he headed east on it. The sun was just starting to make the sky look peachy-pink, but there was some blue in it still. Nyx pulled off onto another dirt road that looked more like an old service road. At the end of the road was a small drive way. Nyx stopped in front of a small house. It looked more like a log cabin out of an Outdoor magazine. There was a middle-aged woman rocking in a chair snapping green beans into a terracotta bowl. She looked up and smiled as she waved at Nyx.
Nyx helped Ivy off the bike and led her towards the front porch to where the woman was now standing. “Margaret, this is a friend of mine, Ivy Morgan.” He greeted. Ivy stepped to the side of Nyx and shook the woman’s hand. She smiled warmly at both Ivy and Nyx.
“Margaret White Elk has lived here her whole life, Ivy. She’s a good friend to my family, and well just about everyone else! She doesn’t say too much, but Margaret is one of the finest women I know and she makes the best fry bread!” Nyx whispered.
Margaret made a gesture with her hands and smiled. Ivy guessed that Margaret must be deaf, and wished she knew sign language. However, Nyx seemed to be communicating pretty good with her. Inside the woman’s small house was an iron stove, dried fruit and herbs hanging from the ceiling on a rack, a modest counter top and sink combo, a small Frigidaire, and cabinets with see through panes that showed her dry goods and dishes. On the oak looking table, there were bowls of fruits and nuts along with a few fat candles. Everything looked homey and neat. Woven rugs were placed strategically and decoratively. On the walls were pictures in heirloom frames and beautiful paintings. Ivy would have bet her next pay check that she had painted them herself. A few of them were nature landscapes and animals, but there were four that really looked like abstract art pieces. The colors were vibrant and every detail had been included. She could have sworn that if she had touched the painting of a trio of bear cubs that she would have felt a fuzzy face instead of a canvas with paint.
Margaret went straight to a cabinet and took out three glasses that she filled with tea. All the colors from the wooden floor to the furniture were all bright earth tones. The cabin seemed just as cozy as the woman in front of her. Margaret took out a covered bowl and set it on the table. It was fry bread. Nyx took a piece and broke it in half. He gave a piece to Ivy. She took a nibble and then a bigger bite. Nyx hadn’t lied; this was good stuff! Margaret made some more gestures that were probably American Sign Language. Nyx laughed and nodded.
Ivy was through her half of bread when Nyx handed her another piece. Margaret laughed. Ivy felt her face flush with embarrassment. Nyx patted her hand. “Don’t worry; you are giving her quite a compliment by eating her fry bread! Margaret can hear if you speak to her; she just can’t speak.” He explained.
“Thank you for welcoming me to your home and thank you for the bread! I’ve never had anything like it before and it’s delicious!” Ivy smiled at Margaret who smiled back and clapped her hands.
Margaret signed something and Ivy watched Nyx shake his head “no” and then she signed something else and Ivy didn’t miss the wink he gave her.
After about an hour and a short walk around back so Margaret could show Ivy her garden; Ivy and Nyx were back on the bike heading towards town. Ivy pointed out where she lived with Lorna. It was dark by the time they reached the house. They stood for a span of moments that seemed like eternity as they stared at one another.
“You should probably go in, Ivy. I really liked spending time with you today and I know Margaret liked having you around!” he said next to her ear.
Ivy didn’t want him to go. “I liked spending time with you too! Margaret is really nice, but was she born mute?”
Nyx’s eyes shadowed at that moment. His face looked pained.
“No, no she was married once. Her bastard husband beat on her. He was an alcoholic and he tried to strangle her. He crushed her voice box. Before, she met and married him; she had one of the most beautiful singing voices on the Res! Margaret’s husband died while coming home from a bar one night. He had been drinking and started a fight with the wrong guy. The guy tried to keep from fighting him, but the drunken asshole pulled a knife and the guy while trying to wrestle the thing away accidently ended up stabbing him.” he sighed and looked away.
“Margaret must have really loved the bastard though because she never again married.” Nyx knew a little more details but he was going to spare Ivy the play by play.
Ivy bowed her head. She knew all about how volatile men whether they were drunk or not could turn. It gave her shivers.
“She seems to really like you though; your visits must be a comfort to her.” Ivy whispered.
Nyx raked a hand through his hair, thinking to himself; once again he’d said something that had pained her, “Yeah. She is a very good friend to my mother. My mother always took care of Margaret as a child and then when she’d been hurt by her husband. I was little and Margaret walked over fifty miles in the snows of winter when we were all very sick. It was so bad that no one from the Res or town could come, but Margaret did. It’s ironic, Margaret is a healer among my people and hers yet she couldn’t heal herself.” He looked at Ivy and knew that he had totally killed the mood. He cursed himself.
“Hey, enough about Margaret though. I really liked spending time with you and I would like to see you again, how about tomorrow?”
Ivy shook her head, “I can’t. I have to work a double tomorrow. I won’t get off until after seven.”
Nyx just smiled, “Hey, I don’t mind as long as I could see you! If nothing else, I could give you a ride home!” He found himself hoping that she’d say yes, but he wanted to see her smile.
Ivy thought about it and gave him a half smile, “Okay. I work down at Grady’s Café. I get off at seven.”
Nyx took his hand and placed it slowly and gently on her cheek as he leaned in slowly and barely touched his lips to hers. Ivy knew she should bolt but the man drew her in like a magnet! For a moment she was lost in the sensation of his kiss. In a lot of ways, it was her very first kiss!
When she parted her lips ever so slightly, Nyx deepened the kiss. Immediately heat flushed her whole body and she became a live wire. He rested his hands on her either side of her face as he kissed her. Never had she ever been kissed like this before. She’d always felt cold and inhuman when Papa Paul had touched her. She didn’t feel that way with Nyx. Suddenly she became all too aware of her body’s reaction and she withdrew.
Nyx knew that something had turned her off but he just smiled and gave her the space she needed. He wished he knew what it was or rather who had hurt her. Nyx didn’t press for details; he just hoped she’d open up about it.

Ever since I was a child I have loved books and stories. I am a mother of two and have been married to my high school sweetheart for twenty years. I have been a long time fan of horror, fantasy, and Science fiction genres since I was a kid.
My dream is to be able to create stories that make you, the reader feel as if you are apart of that world and where your senses come alive. Writing paranormal romance gives me the vehicle so that I can write for my favorite bad boys (whether they come with fang or claw) and give them HEA's that aren't damsels in distress but women who we all can relate to.

NaNoWriMo Versus WRITER'S BLOCK
You are traveling through another dimension or world. Perhaps
you're on Route 66 or you're atop the Eiffel Tower in France, but a
wondrous journey into the unknown or rather the story that you've
been playing inside your head since last November.
NaNoWriMo is here yet again, and you've been feverishly
typing away, possessed beyond sight and the speed of sound when
suddenly, you're mind goes blank and you come to a grinding halt.
You dear friend,
have entered the Writer's Block Zone!
(psst, this is where you cue the music)
PHEW!!! That's a lot to think about isn't it?
If none of that appeals to you, at least do numbers 16 and 20 as soon as you conclude reading
this blog if you are suffering with the big WB. Now these are a few things that I do.

You dear friend,
have entered the Writer's Block Zone!
(psst, this is where you cue the music)
Is this you?
Are you about to pull your hair out or throw in the towel? There is nothing more heart wrenching, more evil, or more of a butt kicker than Writer's Block. It's okay, take a breath-we've all been there and you know what, you'll have it a hundred or more times during your writing career. I've been known to get it while filling out Christmas cards. If you're stuck in the Writer's Block Zone, first take a few breaths and save what you got and turn off the computer, lap top, or Ipad. Don't look at me like I've went stark raving mad, do it. Then I want you to step away and say to yourself, "I AM NOT A FAILURE! THE STORY IS IN ME, AND I WILL WRITE IT." You're still itching to get back to being frustrated and looking at that screen aren't you? Hair trigger maybe? WALK AWAY!!! To quote that little lady from the movie, Poltergeist, "Now clear your minds. It knows what scares you. It has from the very beginning. Don't give it any help, it knows too much already."
Writer's Block is no more than stress and it's not the end of your writing career or the nail in the coffin for your book or NaNoWriMo submission. It means you need a break and the more you let frustration and anxiety in-the more you're going to help your Writer's Block to stay. There are literally hundreds of ways and claims to get over Writer's Block. For all of you NaNo's out there, here is the top 20 ways from a past guide I got in 2010.
- Don’t start with a blank page. Write a quick outline. Jot down a few notes. Write down that one, great quote you were planning to use. Presto — no more blank page.
- Read more widely. Create an RSS dashboard of top bloggers in your niche, sign up for a SmartBrief or two, or get a Google Alert on some of your key words. Read more newspapers. Read books. Read, read, read.
- Write what you feel like writing. If you have a terrific itch to write one particular idea, then write that one right now. The more you go with your creative flow and write what you’re inspired to write, the easier it will be beat writer’s block.
- Start anywhere. Many writers sit staring at their screens because they’re obsessed with writing the first line of a piece first. Forget all about that. If you know how it will end, write that now. If it has bullet points, go ahead and write those first, if that would be easy. Once you jot down the part that’s coming naturally to you, the rest will start to flow.
- Use your lifeline. That’s right, phone a friend, just like on the reality shows. Then, tell your friend about the topic you’re trying to write. As in all conversations, you will tend to naturally mention the most interesting points first. When you hang up, your piece is outlined and ready to go.
- Don’t edit while you write. When you’re writing, just let those creative juices flow along. Don’t spoil the magic by stopping to fiddle with a word here or cut a line there.
- Create an ‘idiot’s outline.’ If you have a lot of research, interviews and other material to organize, go through all your resources and simply listing each source. Then, next to the source, write the most important point or two they make. Now all you have to do is place the points into a logical order, and you’ve got a rough outline.
- Write without notes or quotes. Here’s the opposite approach for a piece with lots of interviews, statistics and research — simply put all your paperwork aside. Now, write the story. Resist the urge to look up factoids or exact quotes. Leave blanks or notes to check details as you go, but keep moving forward. At the end, go back and fact-check.
- Write something else. Write a shopping list, or a letter to a friend. Once the fingers are moving, it’ll be easier to get the piece you were stuck on rolling.
- Review your past writing. Whenever I was really intimidated by a writing assignment, I used to get out my writing portfolio and look through it. When you read your successful previous work, it reminds you that you are a strong writer, and you can do this.
- Free associate. If you feel disorganized, just go with that — start writing random thoughts about your topic. Then, sort through your brainstorms for lines you want in your piece.
- Do a mind map. Get off the computer and make a visual drawing of your topic’s ideas and how they relate to each other. Soon, you’ll not just have ideas for your current post, but ideas on how that one might lead to related, future posts.
- Set a timer. Use the Pomodoro technique and set a timer for 25 minutes. Now, you have to work on your assignment until the timer goes. You can’t do anything else. That’ll get boring fast, and you’ll start to write. Try it if you don’t believe me.
- Create a deadline. The problem with our own writing is no ‘boss’ is standing over us insisting we get the writing done by a specific time. So create a deadline calendar of when your posts must be completed. Then, allow no recreation time until the deadline is met.
- Reduce noise. Are you trying to write with the TV or radio running in the background? That extra stimulus may prevent you from focusing on the writing. They say our brains really can’t multi-task.
- Turn off the Internet. Do you find yourself playing Bejeweled or checking Twitter when it’s writing time? Write on a pad of paper instead, or use programs such as Anti-Social or Freedom to disable social media or Internet access until you’re done writing.
- Try a writing prompt. If you can’t get the juices flowing, do a writing exercise — writing prompts are available on sites such as Creative Copy Challenge.
- Do more research. Sometimes, nothing’s coming out because a nagging voice in the back of your head says you don’t really know enough about your topic. If that’s so, do a bit more research and then return to writing.
- Change your location. Move to your deck, a coffeeshop, a friend’s back bedroom, a co-working office space…wherever you don’t usually write. See if inspiration hits.
- Take a break. Take a half-hour break. Take a walk. Take a bath. Take a nap. Do a headstand — get some blood flowing to the brain again. Then, come back ready to have at it.
PHEW!!! That's a lot to think about isn't it?
If none of that appeals to you, at least do numbers 16 and 20 as soon as you conclude reading
this blog if you are suffering with the big WB. Now these are a few things that I do.
- I rest my brain. That could mean simply lying down and taking a nap-which if you're home is like mine and occupied with children-naps are like unicorns; rare and mythical. So, try taking a soak (don't forget to bring the radio so you can tune out the myriad of knocks and bathroom interruptions. You could also try going to your room or curling up in a chair with a good book that is a total 360 degrees from what you are writing or pop in a good movie.
- Nothing says Craft/Hobby time like Writer's Block. After I've had a good rest, I either turn to t baking or crafting. Not only does cooking/baking and crafting distract from where your writing left off, but it exercise both physical and sensory. I don't know about you but a double chocolate fudge Hawaiian Brownie sounds like a great way to jump back into writing.
- Use your Phone-A-Friend lifeline. Any good friend will know that if you are calling them during the NaNoWriMo month of November, that it's game time and you've been given a time out while the field is being re-prepped. I usually turn to my author friends or fellow NaNo's. They give great support but are going to talk about something other than what you're writing about. They're going to listen to you vent and keep you from assassinating your main character and burning the castle down. Your friends will be there to keep you from having a Carrie White at the Prom moment. Author/writer friends have been there! Network. This should be the only time you are back on the computer and it is strictly for using "The Buddy System". My friend Denyse Bridger, who is an accomplished award winning author is the cute version of Mickey Goldmill, who's there with a bucket of water to throw on me and slap if I need it. Believe me, I've had to have a few slaps during Writer's Block hysterics. I have a lot of other great friends too that are my little cheer leading section.
- Get out of the house if you can. Take in a dinner and a show or go do something that will keep you active. Me, I love going to the movies or simply just taking a walk.
When I've completed all these and I feel recharged and ready to go, I grab a notepad or composition notebook and just do some free writing. It doesn't always make sense but it gives my brain a jump start. The key gets turned in the ignition and I'm up and writing again.
So have you ever had Writer's Block and survived? Tell me how you did it or if you're struggling-share your experience in the comments below!
YOU CAN DO IT! DON'T STOP!

Publish America-yeah we're back to that again. Please Read!
We have established that Publish America LLC. of Franklin,Maryland is not only an author mill but a predator as well. Short of selling your soul to the devil or stealing your first born to give to Rumplestilskin, there aren't too many lows to which they will not go in order to suck the ever living life out of your hard work and dreams. I wonder how my favorite painters, Dali and Degas would have felt if the places where they pitched their paintings to would have said, "We'll only sell your artwork if you let us bastardize your reputation and rob what coin you have in your pockets." That is exactly what Publish America has done to all of us writers and authors. When I wrote my book and submitted it to them and signed their contract, I wasn't motivated by royalties, I was more motivated that I had written a book, a story that people would enjoy reading and be known for my accomplishments. It is no different than a person who becomes a doctor who studies and wants to have a reputation as a good doctor or surgeon. It's no different than anyone who wants to be successful at something-anything. I have begged for my contract to be closed and I have written and called Maryland's State Attorney General's office as well as the BBB of Maryland to no avail. They stay just on the edge of where they're within the law. Publish America is a very good example of "Let the Buyer Beware!" They are worse than a shoddy used car salesman! The latest farce is that they promised for just $49, that not only will your book be given to world famous author, J.K. Rowling, but you will also be represented in the Edinborough Book Fair. If you buy X amount of your books(and if you check http://www.publishamerica.com, you'll find out soft cover books are horribly over priced-mine in soft cover is $35.99) you can also be represented at the Frankfort Book Fair in Germany. For a nominal fee Costco, Wal-Mart, and Sam's Club's book buyers will be contacted to carry your book. For one, a publisher should want to get their writers as much exposure as possible and wouldn't ask writers to pay fees to get their books promoted. When you contact Publish America they send out condescending tone letters. I've had my fair share of them and I'm sick of them really. So I want each of you who see and read this to get the word out on your blogs, websites, Twitter, and other social networks to get the word out that Publish America LLC of Franklin, MD is a fraud and a parasite. Perhaps if no one feeds into their scams, someone's dream and pocket book won't be taken advantage of like so many others, including me. If we can stop people from signing contracts with Publish America then we can keep them from making money. If you are a Publish America author-save your E-mails. Any offer they make is false-no celebrity nor author who is already a well known published writer such as Nora Roberts, James Patterson, J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, or etc., is going to read or endorse your book! They are under agreements and contracts with their own publishing houses as well as they're busy-they don't have the time to read books when they have their writing and scores of fans. Why would a publishing house like Random or Little Brown want their authors like Stephanie Meyer and Dan Brown(Davinci Code series)want their authors reading for another lesser known publishing house like Publish America who hasn't had one author make it into the big time? I know on their site they have a woman whose book was made into a movie for the Hallmark Channel-which if you do a little digging-the Hallmark Channel and Lifetime Networks have never heard of the woman or her book. My advice is when you write something, go through the proper channels. All great authors had to pay their dues and had to face rejection and had to fine tune their books.Do your research and really really do your homework on a publisher. Join author blogs and ask questions. Visit places like:Author's Den, Absolute Write, and Writer's Beware. If you're on social networks, look up your favorite author and ask questions-you may not get a quick response but most of them will answer questions when they can. I wish I had done that but I was green and naieve. DO NOT SIGN WITH PUBLISH AMERICA AND IF YOU ALREADY HAVE AND ARE IN THE SPOT I AM IN, LET'S STAND UP TOGETHER-THERE IS STRENGH IN NUMBERS! DO NOT BUY INTO THEIR HYPE AND OFFERS!
